What We Do


Formed in 2011, PVNavigator’s sole business focus is on the development of solar facilities on brownfield, landfill, and surplus property throughout the United States.  Independently funded by Alturus Strategic Capital Partners, PVNavigator (“PVN”) is the solar development arm of TerraNavigator and has grown to become one of only a few companies to specialize in the niche area of the development of small scale (1 to 20 MW) distributed generation projects on environmentally-impacted sites.

PVN is headquartered out of California with offices in San Diego.

Management Team


Ruben R. Fontes, Ph.D.

Ruben is the co-founder and CEO of TerraNavigator and has over 22 years of executive management experience for a wide variety of projects with particular emphasis in the design and construction of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure, electrical substations and utility interconnections, and general construction in the manufacturing, medical, education, gaming, and renewable energy sectors. In the distributed energy and utility-scale solar markets with Swinerton Renewable Energy and Chevron, Ruben managed teams involved with investment structuring, cost estimating, procurement, engineering, land development, construction, asset management, and operations and maintenance services.  A Columbia graduate, Ruben also holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies (with an emphasis in Organizational Management) from the University of San Diego.

 

Peter J. DeFazio, MBA

Peter is the co-founder and Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy of TerraNavigator. Peter has over 12 years of experience in the energy and utilities sector and more than $15 billion in energy transaction experience across a multitude of asset classes. Peter has held senior management roles at several Fortune 500 energy companies in project finance, structured finance, M&A, and wholesale structuring & origination. Some of these companies include NRG, Sempra Energy, SDG&E and PacifiCorp Energy. His focus at TerraNavigator is corporate and business strategy development and execution. Peter is also responsible for project and structured finance activities in addition to maintaining key relationships with investors, financial institutions, and tax equity providers. Peter received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gonzaga University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Portland.

 

Christian F. Dick, MCP

Christian is Senior Director of Project Development for TerraNavigator who partners with landowners and key stakeholders to re-position underutilized real estate assets for clean energy generation. After more than 15 years of project development, real estate, and origination for both Fortune 500 corporations and startups, Christian’s focus is on assessing the priorities of diverse stakeholders  and implementing sustainable reuse solutions for brownfields and underutilized real estate assets.  Some of the companies in which he has held leadership roles include: Swinerton Renewable Energy, Chevron ES, and CFD Development. His focus at TerraNavigator is on real estate site origination, feasibility analysis, and project development of underutilized assets. Christian is also responsible for maintaining key relationships with corporations, utilities, channel partners, and project stakeholders. Christian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural History from Trinity College and a Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, and is a LEED accredited professional.

Board of Directors


Ian A. Webster, Sc.D.

Ian Webster, Sc.D., is the President of Project Navigator, Ltd (“PNL”) and Board Member of TerraNavigator. Ian formed PNL in 1997 as a consulting firm focused on large, complex, regulatory impacted, environmental remediation projects across the United States.  Prior to founding PNL, Ian had a 15-year career in environmental services focused on major projects development with Unocal Corporation. Ian received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, and a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from MIT.

 

Jacob B. Jones, MBA

Jacob is the acting CFO of TerraNavigator as well as a co-founder of Alturus Capital, a strategic capital provider focused on investing in industry-leading companies.  Prior to starting Alturus, Jacob was at Quantum Energy Partners, a leading energy-focused private equity firm with over $6 billion of capital under management. He began his career as a financial analyst in the investment banking division at Deutsche Bank where he focused on structured products. Jacob received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgetown University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

 

Chad D. Hufsey, MBA

Chad is the co-founder of Alturus Capital and a Board Member of TerraNavigator.  Prior to starting Alturus, Chad was a senior member of the investment team at Brazos Private Equity Partners, a middle market private equity firm with $1.4 billion of capital under management, focused on the industrial, consumer, healthcare, and business services industries. Prior to joining Brazos, Chad was at Quantum Energy Partners, a leading energy-focused private equity firm with over $6 billion of capital under management. Chad received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, summa cum laude, from Texas Christian University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School.
